How do you start a business?

There are a million books out there about starting a business. There are a million companies willing to help you launch a product...for a "small" fee. There are even shows about how businesses become successful. But most of these resources only give an overview. I want to know the details. I wish there was a manual that tells you step by step how to bring a product to market. I will make a confession. I spend a lot of time Googling terms I have never heard of. Net 30, buttons by the Gross, SEO, Line Sheet, Marking and Grading, what? I majored in Mass Communications in college. At 20 years old, I thought I wanted to be an executive in the entertainment industry. Well, I had a great college experience but didn't take any courses that apply to business. So I have a product, I have a website, I even have figured out how to sell my product on that website but now I need to get into stores. Each step leads to another and wouldn't it be helpful if someone held my hand and said, this is exactly what you need to do next. Oh, and here's the money to do it. I spend a lot of time looking at what other companies are doing to see what I like and don't like. I wish I could call the owner up and ask a million questions. How did you decide on your packaging? Did you have one person design and another print? Did you print locally or oversees? Should I do a trade show or try to stick to online sales? Where do I go from here? And I always want to know...how much money did you start your business with? I worry that's a personal question so I never ask. I sit around imaging that they must have had a lot more money to work with to have gotten to this point in their business. Or is that just an excuse? What keeps me going...every day I become a better businesswoman from the things I learn from others.
